Permaculture is a practical and scientific design system for the harmonious integration of landscape, ecology and human habitat. It is also:  

- a positive solution to society's sustainability issues,

- a bottom up and grassroots approach to solving social and ecological problems,

- a way to address concerns about peak oil.
