Provincial Committees

The following committees are currently active at the provincial level:

Admissions Committee

  1. receives applications for membership in SIA.
  2. providing the application holds prerequisites, the admissions committee accepts the applicant for membership and assigns an articling period to be served.
  3. in cases where a ruling is required on equivalency of training, the application is referred to the Dean's Office, College of Agriculture for a decision.

Articling Agrologists Committee

  1. co-ordinating program with the branches of SIA
  2. sponsoring seminars to provide artilcing members with a comprehensive introduction to the structure and activities of SIA and to develop an appreciation by articling members of the responsibilities and ethics of becoming a professional agrologist.

Honours & Awards Committee

  1. determines members worthy for AIC and SIA awards.
  2. receives and reviews nominations and supporting documents for awards and recommends action to Council.

Public Awareness & Communications Committee

  1. publicizes the agrologist profession through press, radio and television.
  2. prepares information and press releases on meetings of SIA and branches, seminars and lecture programs and on SIA membership.
  3. prepares releases regarding contributions of individual members.
  4. creates public awareness of the aims and objectives of SIA.

Discipline Committee

  1. the discipline committee consists of at least five persons appointed by council one of whom shall be the appointed member.
  2. no member of the professional conduct committee is eligible to be appointed to the committee.
  3. where a report of the professional conduct committee recommends that the discipline committee hear and determine a complaint.

Professional Development & Standards Committee

  1. examines secondary and post-secondary education in Saskatchewan
  2. reviews vocational agricultural training in high schools,
  3. reviews training opportunities for technicians and others employed in the agricultural industry,
  4. reviews the program of College of Agriculture and School of Agriculture, University of Saskatchewan,
  5. ensures that professional development courses are available to agrologists.

Student Relations Committee

  1. confers with the professional conduct committee on matters of professional standards related to education.
  2. assists in student recruitment for agricultural science, publicizing agrology as a profession at elementary and secondary schools.
  3. reviews the technical program proposed for the annual meeting.

Issues Committee

  1. responds to requests to develop a position on any issue relating to the agri-food sector.
  2. develop a position and discussion papers as required and appropriate.

Nominations Committee

  1. chaired by the honourary secretary.
  2. supervises the election of the SIA president-elect and the Saskatchewan director on the AIC Council.
  3. supervises meeting procedures, election of officers, and appointments of committee members at SIA Council and Annual meetings.

Professional Conduct Committee

  1. examines cases of breach of ethics or conduct by members.

Student Relations Committee

  1. encourages and assists members to conform to the Code of Ethics.
  2. maintains watch on all matters pertaining to the maintenance and improvement of standards in agrology.
  3. confers with the education committee on improving standards of the profession.
  4. maintains watch on employment of agrologists in positions requiring an agrologist.
  5. maintains watch on information being provided to the public.
  6. reviews the technical program proposed for the annual meeting.
